Site Badges

Over the last two months as we released our iPhone apps, we also updated the site badges to match our app icons and site favicons. The hardest one to complete was the dwellinggawker icon.
We initially started with a house because it represents home design/dwelling the best, but we struggled with the right type of house. A very modern house looked like a box, especially in the 16x16 pixel favicon size. A more traditional house was a bit too boring. We tried everything from a door, chair, hanging light, porch light, sofa, blueprint and even more damn houses, but nothing really resonated like the other icons.
Our designer, Maria Hilas, finally came up with a lamp. I really liked the lamp shape, but was hesitant because it didn’t encompass dwelling as completely as a house shape. Maria explained that a nice table lamp reminded her “of getting cozy at home.” I could see it and I really liked the dangling switch cord!
In the end, we went with the lamp for dwellinggawker. It fits well with our other icons which don’t completely represent food, crafts and weddings, but they all allow you to make the connection between the icon and site topic.
So that’s our story about how we came up with a lamp for dwellinggawker. If you like the badges and want to showcase your gallery on your site, grab them here…
Finally, let’s thank Maria for the great icons and site badges! I love seeing them together on one page.
